Has The New Republic found a new religion? Long considered the preeminent pulpit for hawkish pro-Israel views, not to mention thoughtful writing on the rest of Judaism courtesy of literary editor Leon Wieseltier, the magazine now stands accused by the Jewish Forward of shilling for fundamentalist Islam. How so? According to Eric Marx, the magazine agreed to let a critic of Saudi Arabian Wahhabism be disinvited from a forum on Saudi Arabia it's co-sponsoring — with Saudi Arabia. Wait, there's more! the critic is none other than former Forward Washington bureau chief Stephen Schwartz. But don't assume that Schwartz, author of The Two Faces of Islam: The House of Sa'Ud from Tradition to Terror got 86'd by the Kingdom for being anti-Muslim (which would be a fair charge against some other former Forward staffers); Schwartz, currently a news writer for The Voice of America, is a convert to Islam.
