Go Ahead, Throw the First Stone
30 April 2004
Everyone has seen those Jesus Christ action figures by now -- but have you seen them put into action by a band of happy campers? Now you can, at Jesus-Christ-Action-Figure (With Walk-on-Water Action). It's kitsch, it's camp, it's probably too damn irreverent -- but it's cute and it's funny, too! Quick gloss of "serious" commentary: The interesting thing about this site is that it could appeal to many Christians, as well as those who make fun of them. It may even be a Christian site. It's a perfect example of kitsch-as-Gospel, a brilliantly subversive use of media by savvy evangelicals who believe that a seed can be planted through laughter as easily as through earnest proselytizing.
