Hey, Baby, You Wanna Check Out My Sword?
23 January 2005
Reuters reports on the Christian "warrior" movement, inspired by author John Eldredge's bestselling Wild At Heart and descended from poet Robert Bly's Iron John movement. Some members commission replicas of the sword wielded by Mel Gibson as William Wallace in Braveheart. Others simply recast their entire lives in military terms. Journalist Nigel Hunt reports with a gee-whiz-neato appreciation for the movement, tacking on a "Christian critic" at the end, but giving the last word to Eldredge -- who takes the unorthodox position that the spiritual value of his ideas will be determined by whether chicks dig it, as if Christianity's only measure was a man's ability to keep his wife happy.
