Pagan Filters
18 November 2005
The Wildhunt Blog reads between the lines of this Herald Tribune story describing a forum on religion in public schools held in Sarasota, Florida. Superintendent Gary Norris was a panelist at the event, hosted by Americans United for Separation of Church and State, and was heckled by an audience member after admitting, vaguely, to installing computer filters that block students' access to occult and non-mainstream religious sites (which would include, as Wildhunt points out, sites such as religioustolerance.org, for their mention of words such as "pagan," "witch," "Wicca," and "Shaman") -- apparently a fairly common practice in public schools which allow online access to sites about mainstream religions.
