Intelligent Design Ruling
20 December 2005
U.S. District Judge John E. Jones III has just ruled that teaching Intelligent Design in biology classes, as an alternative to evolution, is unconstitutional, violating the ban on teaching religion in public schools. In a 139-page opinion, Jones declared that several of the school board members of Dover, Pennsylvania had "lied to cover their motives even while professing religious beliefs," and that the secular goals claimed by the board members -- that they wanted to give students a broader science education -- were a cover for promoting religion in the classroom.
