He Just Wants to Dance
15 December 2006
The line that really jumped out at us from the news of the New Jersey legislature's vote for civil unions was this: "But Assemblyman Ronald S. Dancer, a Republican from Ocean County, said that the bill was an affront to the Bible, and that 'this is one time that I cannot compromise my personal beliefs and faiths.'" This one time! Man's gotta draw the line somewhere. A whole lotta compromising is ok, but when it comes to, say, extending the right to visit a dying spouse in the hospital to known homosexuals -- that's where Ronald S. Dancer says, "You shall not pass!" We were curious about what could slip by ol' Stonewall Dancer, so we looked in on his legislative record: Number three on the list of sponsored bills is this little compromise with the imperatives of scripture: A623, which "Limits the payment of transportation costs for homeless students." Just what kind of man is tiny-hearted Dancer? You'll have to turn to Hoof Beats, the official magazine of the U.S. Trotting Association -- that's for harness racing gambling operations -- to find out, in this totally uncompromising feature, "Dancing to a Different Beat."
